We look to strike a balance between two contrasting concepts – communal living and individual identity; and we came up with the “Checkers Concept”. Studying the checker board, we saw that each box is clearly defined within its own boundary but together all the boxes form a synergy that produces an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects. It is this concept that we translated into our façade design.
A typical unit measures at 252Sq.M and spreads across three levels. Double volume living room, dining area, kitchen & utility, guest w/c and steward’s room occupy the ground floor. Upper levels where the bedrooms and family lounge are located are accessed through suspended steel stairs.
The building façade evolved by juxtaposing recessed surfaces with solid planes across three units and over all floors to create a simple but engaging checker pattern. The locations of the solid/recessed surfaces are alternated in each block to prevent apartments from looking directly into one another.
